ENFE NEWS Leveral untapped markets
Smallholders and forest contractors together could leverage untapped markets for certified timber in Europe

ENFE Discussion Paper Effects of the economic crisis on forest harvesting enterprises (1st ed.)
The slump of economic activities due to last years crisis has severely affected the contracting
sector in Europe. A decreased contract volume of about 25% in average in Europe has mainly hit the smaller enterprises
which did not have sufficient own capital or reserves to bridge this income gap. Critical long term effects of the crisis
are expected in terms of delay of investments and a setback in development. This will affect the forest based economies
as a whole, since it is evident that the future increasing wood demand will depend on the availability of competent
and keen contractors.

and timber products on the market" would be endorsed without paying respect to contractors´ role
in timber trade and marketing.
